the evils of social media and other Sunday ponderings
The Bible talks about how the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Not money itself but the love of it.
I’ve been wondering if the same can be said of social media.
I’ve seen many posts of people talking about how social media is evil and they are so glad they are aren’t on it…posts that ironically are being made on a social media platform even if it does feel different.
If you’re off all mainstreams forms social media, good for you! Watch that your personal conviction doesn’t turn to pride.
If you are on social media, good for you! Watch that your moderation doesn’t escalate into monopoly.
And above all, remember that God is above all and can use all. Only He and you know what is in your heart. What Satan meant for evil, God can use for good. This includes social media.
You are not better than others for not using social media or worse than others because you do.
It is a tool like anything else. Wield it through the wisdom that comes through keeping in step with the Holy Spirit.
Much love,
Sarah

This is so good! A few years ago I read Tony Reinke’s book 12 Ways Your Phone is Changing You. It completely changed my view of social media and opened my eyes to how God can use it for His good purposes and to spread the gospel! 💞
Such a good perspective. I’ve taken a big step back from Instagram this year but am very active (clearly) on Substack. This works for me in this season, but it’s okay if that shifts in the future!
